Level 2 of the Stars 234-Seat tourney:
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Troublecat [Kh Kd]
OhioRounder: folds
FastRacer: folds
Troublecat: raises 60 to 90
showoff0450: folds
Rxpert: raises 300 to 390
I naturally think I have the best hand here, but it’s early and I’m willing to get away from KK if I absolutely have to. But I want more money in the pot and the only likely scare card on the flop is an ace.
Troublecat: raises 510 to 900
Rxpert: calls 510
Well, crap. Pot is now 1800. I’ve got one pair in a pot that’s 3/4 the size of a starting stack.
*** FLOP *** [3h Qs Tc]
Uh, raise your hand if you like this flop.
I hate it. Son of a bitch has QQ. Or TT. Both of those make sense. QQ makes the most sense, strong enough to reraise with before the flop, not enough to shove against a 3-raise. But I know nothing about this guy except that he hasn’t raised a hand at the table yet. AA is a possibility but I think he’d have shoved that before the flop, as it’s early enough that nobody wants to hang themselves. Except me.
I check my overpair.
Troublecat: checks
Rxpert: bets 1500 and is all-in
He goes into his time bank for a while and then moves all-in. Weak means strong but I’d do exactly the same thing with JJ if someone checked to me on that flop. Or AQ, assuming JJ. Maybe he puts me on AK and has AQ. Or AT for that matter. I’m getting better than 2:1 and I’m either miles ahead or drawing extremely slim. Against his range of possible hands (AA-TT, AQ, AK, AT) I think the math says I have to call. But I don’t like it.
The fact that I have chips left over is what pushes me to call. My gut says I’m outflopped but the pot’s big enough that I can’t find the conservative fold.
*** TURN *** [3h Qs Tc] [Ts]
*** RIVER *** [3h Qs Tc Ts] [5s]
*** SHOW DOWN ***
Troublecat: shows [Kh Kd] (two pair, Kings and Tens)
Rxpert: shows [Qh Qd] (a full house, Queens full of Tens)
Rxpert collected 4845 from pot
Three hands later I get QQ in the big blind, reraise all-in against the button’s position raise. He calls with ATs. Ace on the flop and IGHN.
