    The Secret Of Poker, Abridged

posted by Absinthe | 8:30 PM

Donkeys always draw. Good players only draw when their card is coming.
T2700 at the dinner break, thanks to a fortunate suckout.
For the 75/150 lovel I won one pot. I got a walk in my big blind. Then our table broke and I got moved UTG +1, paid the blinds twice at that table, then that table broke and I posted blinds again two hands later at my new table. Then I folded and folded and folded.
I don’t like to fold when I’m a short stack. You all know that. But paint-rag wasn’t working at any of my tables and for two levels the only ace I saw was A4o UTG. My stack shrunk to T1300 or so, at 100/200 blinds, when I actually got to see a flop from the BB with T9o. (Why I didn’t shove it in preflop with that is a legitimate question. Button had a big stack and probably would have called me.) Flop came 783 rainbow, I checkraised button all-in, he instacalled with 98, dealer peeled off a jack on the turn for me. Woohoo! Then I stole a couple of blinds and here we are.
No idea where I am in relation to par. Maybe I’ll go count tables. 100/200/25 when we come back from dinner, so I’ll need some paint. Or a pair. Something.
I’ve had a couple of unusual bad-fold-good-result plays, which is better then the opposite. Twice it’s been a multiway limped pot and I’ve limped from the SB with a baby pair, only to see the big blind shove all-in and get a caller. Both times I thought for a while and decided I was up against four overs or overs and a higher pair, only to find that the BB and the caller had the same hand (AK once, AJ once). This is a pretty good equity situation but less so when another ace comes on the flop, which happened both times. I’ll take spider-sense over card-sense any day.

I am giving up poker while you play in these events. All of my luckbox powers are at your disposal.

This is what it looks like when I quietly cheer from the sidelines.
