Things Were Looking Pretty Good When I Flopped The Nuts

posted by Absinthe | 7:00 PM

First hand back I find AJo and move in on Hon Le’s blind. He calls with A5o and rivers a flush. Thankfully I have a better one.
Couple hands later Hon raises my BB. I have TT, move all-in, he instacalls for most of his stack with K7s. T46 flop. 5 turn. River 3 and IGHN.
Going out this way actually feels reassuring. I’ve doubted how well I’ve been playing. Doubts erased!

I would probably blow up (literally and matusow-like) if I was taking beats like this. Speaks volumes for your patience and confidence for you not to do the same, keep plugging away, looking forward to the post that says ‘Took it All Down!”

insta-calling with K7sooted after the cards you’ve shown him is truly donkerific. unfortunately, donkeys seem to have all the luck.

I don’t think it’s a terrible call, actually. He has to call 2100 to win 3200 and most of the time he’ll have two live, since I’d obviously make that play on him with a bad ace, maybe a worse king (though kickers are less likely to play in that instance), or something he’s actually ahead of like QJs. TT is near the top of my range. Instacalling seems donkish, but he’d probably made up his mind while the SB was having a long think.

Flopping top set and losing does sting a bit, but I was only 7:3 when the money went in.
